Most Michigan lakes have 'swimmers itch' and this includes Crystal. The have razor sharp shells, so wear water shoes and properly clean out any boats after using them to prevent the spread of zebra mussells to other lakesģ. Zebra mussells have gaing a foothold in Crystal Lake. Being deep (120+ feet), this is a very cold lake for most of the yearĢ. The lake is never crowded and offers beautiful scenery, boating, and swimming.ġ. Other than that, public access is somewhat limited. There is a public beach in Beulah, at the east end of the lake. The lake has plenty of rental cabins along the shore with private beaches. In the summer, the south shore, especially the section near Frankfort, tends to be the calmest part of the lake. I do have a warning to fishermen: Lots of people fish Crystal Lake, but I've never heard of anyone catching very much. It has a nice sand bottom and a very distinct drop off where it becomes deep. The water is very clear and you can usually see the bottom at 12 or more feet. It is one of the deepest and largest lakes in Michigan and offers excellent skiing, and sailing. Crystal Lake has been a favorite vacation spot for more than a century.
